Mitchell Lipton
Dean of Admission & Records & Registrar
Mitchell Lipton serves as our Dean of Admissions and Records and Registrar. Dean Lipton joined Cooper Union in 1997 after working for New York University, The Partnership for the Homeless and The New York City Board of Education.
Dean Lipton supervises the recruitment, admissions, registrar, record production and international student advisement functions for Cooper Union. He is currently a member of the Presidential Leadership Team, Revenue Task force and Academic Standards, Curriculum and Admissions Committees of The Cooper Union.
He is very active with several national organizations and professional associations serving as an elected representative to the Guidance and Admissions Assembly Council and member of The New York State Advisory Panel of the College Board, Chairman of The Scholarship Committee of The Rockefeller Group, and scholarship reader for The Educational Testing Service and the 32 BJ Benefit Fund. He also serves on the Advisory Board for Private Colleges and Universities. Dean Lipton has served as Vice President for Professional Development and Planning of the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling, Steering Committee member for The New York State Legislative Forum and member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling New York City College Fair Committee.
Dean Lipton has written articles for Inside Higher Ed and The Venture Scholars Program. He continues to present at numerous state and national conferences along with leading presentations at our local high schools on college planning and the application process.
Dean Lipton earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration as a Robert F. Wagner Scholar at New York University and Bachelor of Arts in Economics, cum laude, from The State University of New York at Binghamton.
He lives in Westchester County with his wife Dana and sons, Noah and Max.
