Beginners' Meditation Workshop

A complete workshop on the basics of meditation which includes methods of sitting, breathing, walking, sleeping, yoga exercises, massage and theories of meditation

Advanced Meditation

Special meditation methods and techniques taught by Master Sheng-yen. Completion of Beginners' Meditation Workshop and continuation of practice for at least three months are required.

Ch'an Meditation Retreats

  • One-day retreats on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Two-day retreats two to three times a year
  • Three-day retreats two times a year
  • Seven-day retreats during the weeks of Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas -- a week of intensive meditation practice under the personal guidance of Master Sheng-yen

Evening Meditation

Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM which include sitting meditation, yoga exercise and chanting of the Heart Sutra. Open to the public.

Special Ch'an Class

Meditation followed by a Dharma talk by Master Sheng-yen. Topics concern Ch'an Practice. Two semesters per year. Wednesdays 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Completion of Beginners' Meditation Workshop and continuation of practice for at least three months are required.

Friday Night Ch'an Sitting Group

Open to both beginning and experienced students of Ch'an who have completed the Beginners' Meditation Workshop. The group practices together, engages in informal discussion, receives practice instructions, and shares understanding and experience in the application of Ch'an to daily living. Conducted by Master Sheng-yen or the resident monks. Friday 7:00 to 9:30 PM.
