GERARDO DEL CERRO Gerardo del Cerro holds Ph.D.s from the New School for Social Research in New York and from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). He is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Executive Program on Performance Measurement for Effective Management of Non-Profit Organizations. He has taught in Spain and in the United States, and his research interests include world city theory, the political economy of globalization, the links between science, technology and society, and evaluation research. At Cooper Union he teaches political economy and urbanism. He is the author of three books and 19 peer-reviewed papers. Professor del Cerro's latest book, Bilbao. Basque Pathways to Globalization (London: Elsevier, 2006), examines the impact of globalization in the Basque Country and provides both a new theory of globalization and a detailed analysis of the main challenges facing the Basque region in our global era. In praising Professor del Cerro's book, leading American urbanist Janet Abu-Lughod comments that "this well-documented case study makes a vital contribution to global city studies." Professor Diane Davis from Architecture and Planning at MIT notes that "this book's appreciation for history and the complexities of scale make it one of the more sophisticated studies of globalization available today."
