Logistics

We have determined thirty-three African cities in Sub-Saharan Africa that have been deemed suitable to be the center of operation for one or more vans. Suitability was determined by the following

Characteristics:

The cities that we decided to use as our centers of operations are listed below:
North Central Region

South West Africa East Central Africa West Central Africa South Central Africa Southern Africa

Distribution of Vans and Other Logistics

Each of these cities will be the center of operations for three vans each with the exception of one city. Kampala, Uganda will be the center for four vans, since areas reached by other cities do not overlap the four hundred-mile radius around Kampala and there are a high number of small villages in this area that need to be reached.

Since the vans are made in Cape Town, South Africa, the vans will leave from Cape Town and drive north to their respective centers of operation (with the exception of the three vans stationed in Cape Town). They will not be stocked with medical supplies until reaching the centers of operation. All of the cities listed as centers of operation are accessible by roads which go through other main cities so refueling the vans and reaching the various cities will not be a problem. Once the vans reach the centers of operation and stock the vans with medical supplies, they will begin the process of driving out to the rural villages. They will cover the rural villages using a spoke-like method—driving out to the village, and, after the vaccination process is complete (see medical section), driving back to the center of operation. After restocking the van with supplies and resting for a couple of days, the vans will go back out to the next village and repeat the process until the entire four hundred-mile radius area around the center of operation has been vaccinated.
