Who can use The Center for Writing and Speaking?

The Center is for all Cooper Union Students: all students in the schools of Architecture, Art, and Engineering, and all students in all years of their programs.


What happens in The Center for Writing and Speaking?

The Center provides trained teachers of writing and speaking skills for individual consultation on your work before and after it is due. It also offers workshops on topics of interest to groups of Cooper students, including kinds of writing problems and kinds of public speaking techniques.


Why should anyone use The Center for Writing and Speaking?

You should use the Center if you want to improve your communication skills. You should use the Center if you are worried about your writing and speaking assignments. You should use the Center if you are dissatisfied with grades on your written or spoken presentations. You should use the Center if your teachers recommend it.


What are the requirements for using The Center for Writing and Speaking?

The instruction you get in the Center is free. Use of the Center is voluntary, not mandatory. The work you do in the Center is not graded and earns no credit. The Center is a support facility for students.

The Center is open throughout the semester. It is open for individual appointments Monday through Friday. It will open for more hours to match student interest and to fit student schedules. Small group workshops will be scheduled throughout the week and announced in advance.

Make an appointment for individual work now. Do it by visiting or telephoning the Center any day, Monday through Friday. You can also visit during those hours and hope to find a free tutor. No appointments are necessary for small group workshops: just attend at the announced time and place.
