The thermofluids laboratory is used to give juniors hands-on
experience with important mechanical engineering equipment,
including axial flow fans, refrigeration systems, steam
nozzles and internal combustion engines. The experiments
they perform include acceptance tests, scaling investigations,
comparison of theoretical and experimental models, replication
of results and comparison of actual and idealized performance.
The laboratory is also used for senior projects and masters
theses. These include the improvement of existing equipment
and the development of new experiments. Our novel hydrogen
production and storage system was developed in this laboratory.
The thermofluids laboratory requires students to prepare
formal written reports and to give oral presentations thus
teaching these communications skills as well.
