Dr. Jameel Ahmad

Dr. Jameel Ahmad has been a faculty member in the civil engineering department at Cooper Union for over thirty years.  He is also the director of the Cooper Union  Research Foundation.  He is a member of the administrative and curriculum committees of Cooper Union's Albert Nerken School of Engineering.

Professor Ahmad received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Punjab University, Pakistan; a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Hawaii; and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.  Before joining the Cooper faculty, he taught engineering at Widener University for a year.

Professor Ahmad has served as principal investigator/project director for several multidisciplinary projects involving faculty and student researchers from all engineering disciplines at Cooper Union as well as outside experts from the professional community.  The Cooper Union Infrastructure Institute, established under his leadership in the 1980's, has been acclaimed for its research on New York City's infrastructure in the areas of bridge maintenance and rehabilitation, asphalt technology (SHARP), alternative municipal sludge disposal strategies, and noise abatement.  In the 1990's, he directed a comprehensive program of biomedical engineering education and research involving faculty members and students from all academic departments in the school of engineering.  The program led to the creation of the Center for Biomedical Engineering under the auspices of the Cooper Union Research Foundation.
