What is the ECCC?

ECCC (pronounced E-triple C) is an acronym for the Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference.

The ECCC is an ongoing series of international virtual conferences. The first Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was announced in 1993 and held in November 1994. ECCC brings together scientists and engineers working in all aspects of computational chemistry, computational biology, cheminformatics, and computational atomic, molecular and chemical physics. It is a free conference (no registration fees) and is held entirely on the Internet. All presentations are viewable using only a web browser, and many also make use of "hyperactive molecules" and other chemical Internet technologies to enhance the presentation. Discussions are held online, but are not archived.

A Brief ECCC History

The ECCC was conceived of and originated by Steven Bachrach, a true pioneer of cheminformatics who organized the first four ECCC's. Steven is also the editor of the pioneering and innovative Internet Journal of Chemistry. Herbert Homeier organized the 5th ECCC together with Steven, and organized the 6th ECCC. As of ECCC7, the conference is being organized by Robert Topper, together with Bob Hopkins and Chris Lent. Visit Steven's web page and follow appropriate links therein to find interesting articles he has written on electronic conferences and their future.

The 9th Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference (ECCC9) is scheduled for March 2003. The conference URL is http://eccc9.cooper.edu . Current plans call for the ECCC9 Proceedings to be published in a special issue of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

The 8th Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference (ECCC8) was held in March 2002. The conference URL is http://eccc8.cooper.edu . The ECCC8 Proceedings will be published in a special issue of Theoretical Chemistry Accounts.

The 7th Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference (ECCC7) was held in April 2001. The conference URL was http://eccc7.cooper.edu . The proceedings of ECCC7 were published in the Internet Journal of Chemistry.

The 6th Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was held in November 1999. The conference URL was http://www.chemie.uni-regensburg.de/ECCC6. The proceedings were published in the Internet Journal of Chemistry.

The 5th Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was held in November 1998. The proceedings were published in the Internet Journal of Chemistry.

The 4th Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was held in November 1997, and was prolonged until December 12, 1997. A mirror for ECCC4 articles and discussions was available in Regensburg. The proceedings were published in the Internet Journal of Chemistry.

The 3rd Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was held November 1996. Its proceedings are available in THEOCHEM, vol. 419, and also online at Elsevier: http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/eccc3.

The 2nd Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was held November 1995. Its proceedings are available in THEOCHEM, vol. 368, and also online at Elsevier: http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/eccc2.

The 1st Electronic Computational Chemistry Conference was held November 1994. Its proceedings are available on CD-ROM from ARInternet Corporation, 8201 Corporate Drive Landover, MD 20785, USA.
