Application
Admission to the School of Engineering relies heavily on high school transcripts and SAT I and SAT II scores in math and chemistry or physics. Extracurricular activities and leadership qualities also are considered. Competition is extremely keen. Nevertheless, potential students should not hesitate to apply if they have the motivation and interest to thrive in the school's supportive, rewarding environment and are ready for hard work and a challenging learning experience. The freshman application deadline is February 1; early decision applicants should complete the process by December 1. Transfer applicants should apply before April 1.
Once the initial application is filed, each applicant is mailed a series of questions to be answered in essay format. The Engineering School Admissions Committee determines an appropriate formula for admission. All numerical factors of an applicant's record high school average, SAT I and SAT II scores, high school math and science averages are factored into the formula to produce an "admissions score," the initial determinant for admission. Then the essays and teacher/counselor recommendations are considered to ensure that the admission offers reflect an accurate match between applicant and institution.
