Students will work in black and white or color medium of their choice. Listed below are suggestions to assist each student.
Materials will be discussed in the first class. Students should bring their choice of materials and the $50 (cash) semester model fee; if there are questions, bring these as well as some material at hand to work with during the first session.

Dry Media
Charcoal: Vine or Willow, Compressed, Charkole, Pencils—soft, medium, hard
Graphite: Sticks, Woodless Pencils—soft, medium, hard
Lithography: Crayon and Pencil
Conte: Crayon and Pencil—black:2B,B,HB, gray, white, earth tones
Soft Pastel: Rembrandt, Grumbacher, Holbien, Conte, Schmincke, Sennelier, etc.
Oil Pastel: Holbein, Sennelier; Wax Blending Stick
Oil Paintstick: Winsor & Newton, Shiva; Wax Blending Stick
Erasers: Artgum, Rubber or Plastic, Kneaded
Sharpeners: Single-edge Razor Blade, Sandpaper
Other: Artists' Tape, Soft Rag or Chamois, Foamcore drawing board and portfolio

Wet Media
Ink: Asian Sumei or Winsor Newton, Pelikan, Higgins; Brushes, Twigs, Pens
Water Color: Winsor Newton Transparent or Opaque (Gouache, Casein, Tempera)
Acrylic: Golden
Brushes: Sable or Other Soft Hair, Bristle, Synthetic; Flats, Rounds, Brights, Lettering
Other: Mixing Palette and Knife, Water Containers, Soft Rag, Artists' Tape

Paper
For dry media: basic drawing (regular or smooth), charcoal/pastel (laid)
For wet and dry media: watercolor, coldpress (medium), no press (rough) or hotpress (smooth); printmaking; bristol
Artist-grade paper brands widely available include Arches, Strathmore, Rives, Fabriano, Canson, Lana, Saunders. Paper sizes will vary, but some standard sheet sizes are 19 x 24", 22 x 30" and larger. These can be used full size or divided into smaller sheets. Newsprint is discouraged.

Manufacturers listed above provide professional-grade materials that are widely available. Other brands may be substituted.
