The Cooper Union School of Art, one of the premier colleges of art and design in the world, is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for visual artists to participate in an intensive, non-credit, studio residency program in New York City for one month this summer. Now in its sixth year, the School of Art Summer Residency Program is designed for emerging artists to develop their work while gaining exposure to the renowned artists, critics, curators, galleries, and museums that New York City has to offer.
Each artist selected for the residency will have a semi-private, sky-lit studio in the historic Foundation Building in the heart of the East Village. Lectures, discussions, and critiques with outstanding guest faculty facilitate an open exchange of ideas and provide a critical context for contemporary issues in art. The program looks to enrich individuals beyond their studio pursuits through seminars and events, and culminates in a group exhibition at The Cooper Union.
The program aims to help artists explore ideas of change and to find a concentrated orientation within one's studio experience, as well as to narrow in on the central character of one's work. It is an ideal program for artists who seek a focused period of time for their ongoing practice and who are looking for interaction with other artists and critical feedback from guest faculty. We hope you will consider applying for this wonderful opportunity.
