Kati Toivanen’s visual explorations of the body arise from her interest in the continued association of the technological with the cerebral. Describing the “moral management” inherent in the 1996 Communications Decency Act as only the most recent manifestation of this cultural bias, Toivanen seeks to reinvest abstracted notions of information with the complex set of sexual, perceptual, and social desires that inform intellectual activity.
