Renée Stout constructs sculptural assemblages that combine images and items from a range of sources into fetish objects. Her work incorporates beads, hair, and other objects relating to the body with castoffs of media culture such as old photographs and gutted television sets. Stout roots her expression in her African American identity while recalling the presence--and the power--of the spiritual and the creative.
