Interactive installation in collaboration with Do-Ho Suh. Projection on canvas structure

Above: detail

  About the work

By using a prominent project from fellow sculptor and collaborator Do-Ho Suh, this installation utilizes interactive projections without damaging the original sculpture. Instead, the new technology bolsters the work’s appeal and understanding. Room represents the first collaboration in a series of four. The series is conceived to explore how an artist -- whether an architect or a sculptor -- represents new media in the arts. The work portrays Do-Ho Suh in an abstract simulation that contains information about who he is, where he originates (Korea), and what he does. The goal is to prevent Suh from diminishing into obscurity (i.e., an emerging Occident artist with a foreign name). Thus the installation is designed to be easily transportable and infinitely repeatable; it can be broadcast to all societies and cultures. In this way, Room allows for a larger scope of understanding.”A.E.O.
