  About the work

The Collected Visions web site is a collaboration with sound designer Clilly Castiglia, web designer Betsey Kershaw, and programmer Kerry O’Neill. We are a collaboration in the best sense of the word--creating something together that none of us could have done alone. The web site is the second phase of a larger multimedia project using snapshots collected from over three hundred men and women. I have been using family snapshots to explore the relationship between photographs and memory since 1980. As video and digital technologies are taking over the family album, I feel they are the perfect media with which to continue my exploration. One of the ideas behind the web site is to initiate and foster a dialogue about family photographs and their roles in our lives. The web creates an opportunity for this dialogue to occur on a global scale. The continual influx and accumulation of photographs and stories from new and diverse sources makes Collected Visions an ever-changing, growing archive of images and memories.”L.N.
