Mary Ann Nilsson seeks to activate „acute psychological states ranging from the isolation of despair to the celebration of erotic desire¾ in order to lend a visceral dimension to what she believes are largely abstract states of vulnerability and self-reflection. Acting as artist and model, and using a combination of instant (Polaroid) film and personal computer imaging software, Nilsson creates images marked by immediacy but informed by personal and art historical memories.
