In making Sensing Discrepancies, I was specifically concerned with the representation and experience of time, and how time and perceptions of power are interrelated. I was extremely aware of the military characteristics inherent in graphic technology, which had its origins in radar technology during World War II. The organization of data, the smallest demeanor of computer imagery, is hierarchical and is reminiscent of the organization of troops, ranks, and means of interaction within military structures. In order to create a sense of equality among the individual elements within my CD-ROM, I avoided computer graphics and instead aesthetically integrated the pieces. The ability to understand the digital arts within the larger context of developing technology and art history is crucial to me as an individual and as an artist. C.H.
