Beverly Fishman derives inspiration and imagery from the simulation intensive sciences of genetics and astrophysics. She reviews databases and books for compelling images, scans and manipulates them with a personal computer, and layers the resulting laser prints--on paper and, more recently, clear acetate--onto wooden forms along with poured, wiped, and brushed paints, dyes, and finishes. The painted surfaces are as visually complex as the constellations of organic shapes are metaphorically rich; the most basic and the most complicated elements of the universe are rendered in human scale.
