David William
Exhibitions & Special Projects Coordinator
As Coordinator of Exhibitions and Special Projects, David coordinates an annual schedule of over 60 exhibitions of student work from the School of Art; assists in planning the expansive all-student "End of Year Show"; collaborates with the Dean and Associate Dean to organize curated group exhibitions of established local, national, and international artists in the 41 Cooper Gallery; serves as Secretary to the Exhibitions Committee; assists students and faculty in planning temporary art installations, architectural interventions, and performance events in traditional and nontraditional spaces throughout the school; handles ad-hoc room reservations for class critiques and breakout sessions; acts as a point of contact between the School of Art and other schools and departments within The Cooper Union; and performs a host of other duties to support the School of Art office, faculty, students, and his fellow staff members.
As an artist — often working under the moniker "D.Billy" — David makes collages, performs typographical site interventions with colored tape, designs posters, takes pictures, makes prints, and draws cartoons. Examples of these types of activity can be found at the links below. Some of David's work has been featured in the books Urban Interventions and Tangible: High Touch Visuals, published by Gestalten.
David earned a B.A. at SUNY Fredonia in 2001, and an M.F.A. at the University of Connecticut in 2003, both in Studio Art.
