Shelly Silver is a New York based artist utilizing video, film and photography. Her work, which spans a wide range of subject matter and genres, explores the multifarious relations that connect and restrict us; the tortuous routes of pleasure and desire; the stories that are told about us and the stories we construct about ourselves.

Silver's recent videos and installations include What I'm Looking For (15:00, 2004), the single channel work premiering at MoMA this fall, the installation version at LisboaPhoto at the Centro Cultural de Belém, Portugal; suicide (72:00, 2003), which had its European premiere at the Berlin Film Festival Forum for New Cinema, Rooster, a multi-channel installation commissioned by the Stadtgalerie Bern (2001), and Hidden Between the Leaves/Caché Parmi Les Feuilles, a site-specific collaboration with the artist Nika Spalinger for the Museum of Art and History in Fribourg, Switzerland (2000).

She has been exhibited throughout the US, Europe and Asia at venues such as MoCA, LA; The Pompidou Center, Paris; The Kyoto Museum, Japan; The ICA and Serpentine Gallery, London; The London, Singapore and New York Film Festivals and has won many awards including at The Leipzig International Documentary Festival, the Moscow International Film Festival, The Australian Int'l Film & Video Festival and The Houston Int'l Film Festival. Silver has received numerous fellowships and grants including from the NEA, the DAAD, NYSCA, NYFA, the Jerome Foundation, the Japan Foundation and Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation. Her videos are distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix, The Video Data Bank, V/Tape, Montevideo and Lux.

Silver teaches video and film at the Cooper Union School of Art.
