GEAROID DOLAN "Separate" (12-hour performance installation at ISCP, New York), video projections, closed circuit TV system, audio, newspapers, time, dimensions variable, 2005 Gearoid Dolan is a multimedia filmmaker, performance artist and audio/video installation artist from Dublin, Ireland. His work has been exhibited worldwide at galleries and festivals showcasing the cutting edge of technology and art. Operating out of New York since 1987, under the pseudonym screaMachine, Dolan continuously pushes the envelope of technology-enhanced artwork. "I am an Irish artist, living and working in New York since 1987. I continue to work on an ever-evolving project titled "screaMachine", which I started in 1987. ScreaMachine is realized in the form of installations, performances, audio and video works, films, digital media art and more. My work is by nature experimental; it pushes the boundaries of new media, experiential and time-based art. I produce works that are flexible and that can have many incarnations." Dolan's work has been performed at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Collective Unconscious, The Kitchen, Franklin Furnace, ABC No Rio, Art in General and Dumbo Arts Center in New York, as well as Western Front in Vancouver, Arthouse in Dublin, Paço das Artes in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and other venues worldwide. He has received grants in support of his work from the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, Media the Foundation and the Experimental Television Center, among others. Dolan has lectured at Art Center in Pasadena, NYU Tisch School of the Arts and has been on the faculty of The Cooper Union School of Art and Director of its Computer Studio since 2000. He currently teaches Intro to Computer Techniques, Freshmen Video and Projects in Photoshop and Illustrator. | BACK | |
