Registration Instructions

Fall 2008

Important Insurance Information - MUST READ

Registration for Fall 2008 semester classes will take place between April 15 and April 18, 2008. Students may bring their registration cards to the Office of Admissions and Records (30 Cooper Square, 3rd Floor) according to the schedule listed below. This registration is for all Bachelor's Degree, Certificate and Master's degree students who plan to return to The Cooper Union in September.

Registration dates and times are based on a student's status in Fall 2008 and are as follows:

  • A Master's student or a Senior in all Schools

    Tuesday, April 15, 2008
    9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
    1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • An Art Junior, an Engineering Junior or a Fourth Year Architecture Student

    Wednesday, April 16, 2008
    9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m
    1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • A Third Year Architecture Student or an Architecture, Art or Engineering Sophomore

    Thursday, April 17, 2008
    9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
    1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

The office will be closed between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Any student who has not registered between April 15 and April 17 may do so on Friday, April 18. PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS WHO HAVE A FINANCIAL OBLIGATION TO COOPER UNION WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO REGISTER. PLEASE SATISFY ANY DEBTS BEFORE REGISTRATION.

STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A REGISTRATION CARD IN THEIR MAILBOXES. A RANDOMLY ASSIGNED NUMBER, DATE AND TIME FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL'S REGISTRATION WILL BE ON THE BACK OF THE CARD. PLEASE NOTE THAT STUDENTS MAY REGISTER AT ANY TIME AFTER THE ASSIGNED TIME BUT NOT BEFORE.

10:00-11:00 a.m. 51-100
11:00-12:00 p.m. 101-150
12:00-1:00 p.m. OFFICE CLOSED
1:00-2:00 p.m. 151-200
2:00-3:00 p.m. 201-250
3:00-4:00 p.m. 251-300


The registration procedure is as follows:

  1. Pick up your registration card with number in your mailbox.
  2. Print your name and address on the registration card.
  3. Complete the registration card with the Fall program appropriate to your needs.
  4. Follow the instructions for your School and Humanities and Social Sciences advisement procedures which are posted on our website:
  5. Bring your approved registration card to the Office of Admissions and Records (3rd Floor, 30 Cooper Square). YOUR REGISTRATION IS COMPLETE ONLY WHEN YOUR CARD IS RECEIVED IN THIS OFFICE DURING YOUR ASSIGNED DATE AND TIME.
  6. Schedule changes and necessary program alterations may be accommodated without fee during the drop/add period which is September 2-12. After that there is a $25 fee for withdrawing from courses (no courses may be added).
  7. The first day of classes will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2. NOTE: MODIFIED SCHEDULE - MONDAY CLASSES MEET.
  8. Any returning student who does not return a registration card between April 15 and April 18 may register in September; there will be a $100 late registration fee.
  9. After September 12, 2008, students may drop classes only within the guidelines and timeframes established by the three Schools and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; there will be a $25 fee for each transaction.
  10. Master's students please note: Even if you are pursuing only the completion of your Thesis, you MUST register in the normal way.
  11. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS:
    Please remember the guidelines for registration for Physics and Math. You must register within your major unless you have permission to do otherwise.
  12. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST REGISTER IN PERSON. YOU MAY NOT GIVE YOUR CARD TO ANOTHER STUDENT TO REGISTER FOR YOU.
