Gifts to the Endowment
Gifts to Cooper Union's endowment support the full-tuition scholarship, endowed faculty chairs, visiting lecturers, equipment and research. Significant gifts provide opportunities to honor donors' generosity by allowing them to name endowed funds or programs. The name may be that of the donor, a family member, or some other person whom the donor wishes to honor, creating a lasting legacy while addressing a vital College need.
Endowment gifts can support:
- Faculty Positions, such as deanships, professorships, presidential scholars, visiting scholars, faculty fellowships, and lectureships
- Scholarship funds, such as the Builders' Circle Scholars Fund and Medici Scholarships, which support the full-tuition scholarship
- Institutes and Centers, such as the Institute for Urban Security and Protective Design, the Center for Writing and Language Arts, or the Center for Signal Processing and Computing
- Named lectures and exhibitions, such as an Annual Exhibition Series or Lecture Series.
- Equipment, such as computers or library books
Builders' Circle Scholars Fund
The opportunity to fully underwrite the education of Cooper Union's most deserving students—from day one until graduation—is one of the most rewarding benefits of contributing $1 million to the construction of the new academic building.
The funds you designate for this architecturally spectacular facility go directly toward its construction. Once the $120 million building is complete, the Albert Nerken School of Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will move into the new space, freeing the Astor Place site they currently occupy for commercial development.
The income generated by this latter project will, in large measure, be used to pay for the full-tuition scholarships at The Cooper Union for the full four- or five-year (in architecture) curriculum. Each $1 million contributor will therefore be supporting a scholar in his or her name, in perpetuity.
As long as the 51 Astor Place site continues to generate income, that Builder's Circle Scholarship will be granted every four or five years. Freshmen, who will be nominated by the Dean of Admissions in conjunction with the dean of their school, will travel through Cooper Union fully supported by a single patron, from day one until graduation. That is a lifelong gift that transcends a simple dollar value.
