Transfer Students
The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture
You may apply for transfer to the architecture program if:
- You have completed at least one year of an accredited architecture program elsewhere by June of the year for which you are applying.
- OR by June you hold a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in a discipline other than architecture.
- OR you can submit a portfolio of your creative work and you have begun studies in a discipline related to architecture.
The Admissions Process
- Please submit the first part of your application online before January 5, 2009.
- You will receive a confirmation for your application.
- You will have to prepare and submit:
- Your official high school transcript or GED certificate (required for all applicants)
- Your official college transcripts (sent directly from the college or university)
- Your SAT I/ACT scores and/or TOEFL scores
- Recommendation letters
- You will receive a hometest in late January to early February which you must complete and return to the Office of Admissions by the deadline (approximately 3-4 weeks later).
- You will receive an admissions decision by mail during the first week of April.
The School of Art
You may apply for transfer to the art program if:
- You have completed 18-60 credits of college studio art courses.
- OR you have previously earned a baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than art.
The Early Decision Admissions Process
Transfer applicants to the School of Art may apply for Early Decision. Students who are admitted during the Early Decision process must withdraw all applications to other institutions.
- Submit the first part of your application online by December 1, 2008.
- You will receive a confirmation for your application.
- You will have to prepare and submit:
- Your official high school transcript or GED certificate (required for all applicants)
- Your official college transcripts (sent directly from the college or university)
- Your SAT I/ACT scores
- Recommendation letters (2-3)
- You will receive a hometest at the end of December which you must complete and submit by the deadline (approximately 3-4 weeks later).
- The hometest will include recommendation forms.
- The hometest will include portfolio requirements. All portfolio work should be sent with the hometest in the envelope provided.
- You will receive an admissions decision by mail at the beginning of February.
The Regular Decision Admissions Process
- Submit the first part of your application online before January 9, 2009.
- You will receive a confirmation for your application.
- You will have to prepare and submit:
- Your official high school transcript or GED certificate (required for all applicants)
- Your official college transcripts (sent directly from the college or university)
- Your SAT I/ACT scores
- Recommendation letters (2-3)
- You will receive a hometest at the end of December which you must complete and submit by the deadline (approximately 3-4 weeks later).
- The hometest will include recommendation forms.
- The hometest will include portfolio requirements. All portfolio work should be sent with the hometest in the envelope provided.
- You will receive an admissions decision by mail during the first week of April.
The Albert Nerken School of Engineering
Preference for transfer is given to those applicants that have completed all of Cooper Union's first year program at another accredited college. If space is available, students are admitted on the basis of prior college records. It may be necessary to wait until late June for a decision.
The Admissions Process
- Submit the first part of your application online before March 13, 2009.
- You will receive a confirmation for your application.
- You will have to prepare and submit:
- Your official high school transcript or GED certificate (required for all students)
- Your official college transcripts (sent directly from the college or university)
- Your SAT or ACT scores (directly from the Collegeboard or ACT)
- Two SAT II scores. One in math (either 1 or 2) and one in either physics or chemistry.
- Recommendation letters (optional)
- You will receive a set of essay questions which you must complete and return to the Office of Admissions by March 20, 2009.
- You will receive an admissions decision by mail in late May or early June.
