Requirements
ELIGIBILITY
High school sophomores and juniors who currently attend schools in (the 5 boroughs) New York City (public or private) may apply to the program. To ensure an intense, personalized and productive experience for the interns, admission is competitive. SORRY BUT WE DO NOT ACCEPT STUDENTS WHO ATTEND HIGH SCHOOLS IN LONG ISLAND, WESTCHESTER OR NEW JERSEY.
Acceptance or rejection to the Research Internship Program does not affect entrance to Cooper Union’s undergraduate program.
DEADLINE
It is the applicant’s responsibility to remind the advisor/teacher of the deadline so that your application materials are submitted on time.
ESSAY
The essay is a portrait of you. It is what you feel it is important for us to know about you. What you write is totally up to you.
Remember your essay should be typed, word processed or neatly printed. Check it for spelling and grammatical errors. One page is perfectly acceptable and please do not send any school work such as lab reports, homework assignments, etc.
NOTIFICATION
Your application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Admission is based on your academic record, letter of recommendation and essay. You will be notified by mail (no phone calls please) in early Spring as to whether your application has been successful.
All decisions are final.
We ask that you not accept the invitation to attend this program if you are chosen unless you are dead serious about coming. It will deprive an eligible student from attending if you take a place and don’t show up.
OPEN HOUSE
Students who have been accepted will be invited to an Open House (to be announced) at Cooper Union where the program administrator and faculty will discuss the program and research projects. Attendance of this Open House is mandatory.
